Karl Jenkins ‘The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace’

It gives us great pleasure to present The Armed Man at this very significant time of year.
Composed at the end of ‘the most war-torn and destructive century in human history’ as a message of hope that the world of the future would have more peace and fewer wars, the work was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum for the Millennium celebrations and was dedicated to victims of the Kosovo conflict. It is essentially an anti-war piece based on the Catholic Mass, which Jenkins combines with other sources, principally the 15th-century folk song ‘L’homme arme’.
