Thanet Festival Choir

About us

The Thanet Festival Choir was formed in 1946 by George Vesey as Margate Festival Choir. Now in its 61st year the choir continues to go from strength to strength. We give at least four concerts each year - oratorios or other religious works in the autumn and spring, a carol concert in December and lighter secular works in the summer.

Members of the choir have a wide range of musical ability; some do not read music at all, others belong to quite a few local groups, one or two even sing with the Purcell Singers and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields Chorus. If you feel you would enjoy singing with us then come and join us. Our Music Director works us hard, but rehearsals are always fun as well as being educational and we approach each performance with a satisfying sense of achievement. Singing is good for you, laughter is good for and ambition is good for you - what more could one ask of a couple of hours every Wednesday evening? Just don't forget to bring a pencil!

We are very grateful to our Friends, without whose support such a wide range of concerts would not be possible If you would like to support us as a Friend, or by joining us as a member, please contact Linda our Secretary though the contacts page.
